Can a New Tattoo Touch Clothes?

Have you done a new tattoo and you don’t know whether your tattoo gets touched with clothes or not?  Well, you are on the right site. Now, this is a common question in tattooers.  In this article, we are going to tell you whether your tattoo should touch clothes or not. So, let’s get started!

Well, if you want to show your tattoo, you have to wait for a while to let it heal first. People think that after getting a tattoo, they can wear whatever they want but it is a wrong conception as it can be harmful to you.

If you want to wear regular clothes which are mostly tight-fitting right after getting a tattoo, you may have some rashes and infections in that place. And it will delay the process of healing your tattoo. It is highly recommended not to wear any tight-fitting clothes at least for one weak right after having a tattoo.

So, what kind of clothes you should wear? Let’s talk about it first!

Clothes you should wear after getting a tattoo

Well, here the most important thing is getting your tattoo healed. For some initial days, you must avoid tight-fitting clothes. Loose-fitting clothes will make sure that the tattoo is hidden from sunlight and any other thing. In this way, it will be easier for you to protect your tattoo place. Also, you will feel comfortable as tight-fitting clothes will increase the chances of irritation in your tattoo area. You may face itching if you wear tight-fitting clothes.

However, if you are having a neck tattoo, it does not mean that you can’t wear tight clothes on your legs or vice versa. Loose clothes will not get stuck with your tattoo. So, your tattoo will get enough air and it will not get irritated. As the cloth will not get in contact with your tattoo, there will be less rubbing. And it will reduce the chances of getting an infection.

So, here our advice will be to try to wear clothes which are made of cotton and try to wear loose clothes as much as possible.

Risks of wearing Tight Clothes

  • Firstly, it will get stuck with your tattoo and it will make your tattoo place more irritated. Also, after tattooing, your tattoo place may get swollen and tight clothes will work as icing on the cake.
  • Secondly, tight clothes often create germs and bacteria on your tattoo. As a result, it is almost sure that you are going to get an infection.
  • Thirdly, as tight-fitted clothes cause infection in your tattoo area, it reduces the growth of your healing process. In some cases, it makes it worse let alone healing the tattoo.
  • Finally, your tattoo area doesn’t get enough air. As a result, it can not get dried. So, wear loose clothes so that your tattoo place can breathe in.

How Long you should avoid tight clothes?

There is no fixed rule for avoiding tight clothes. Here the main concern is how fast your tattoo is healing. And it differs from person to person. Some people may need more time to heal, on the other hand, some may need less time.

However, a tattoo takes at least four to six weeks to heal completely. So, it is better to wear loose or comfortable clothes so that you don’t get an infection. Try to avoid new clothes at this time as your tattoo place is already irritated.

Also, right after getting a tattoo, try to wrap your tattoo with a clean soft pure cotton cloth because it will ensure fewer things are getting in touch with your tattoo. Try to maintain this at least for 72 hours.

The better you will take care of your tattoo place, the sooner it will get healed. After tattooing, for 72 hours your tattoo place is going to be swollen and bloody, so make sure to use a soft cloth in case you don’t have a cotton cloth. DO NOT rub your tattoo place with any cloth. It will increase the chances of getting an infection.

Clothes You Must Avoid After Getting a Tattoo

Generally, it is suggested that after getting a tattoo, you must wear something soft and comfortable. So, here you need to avoid all kinds of clothes that can create irritation around your tattoo area.

Now, we will advise you to avoid bra, jeans, leggings, socks, boots, and yoga pants. But again, it does not mean that you have a tattoo on your chest and you will avoid jeans. No, we are not suggesting you that. If you have a tattoo on your hand, try to avoid clothes that have full sleeves. If your tattoo is on your chest and you are a woman, you must avoid wearing a bra at least for 7-10 days while you are at home. Otherwise, after 72 hours you may wear a loose bra. But remove it as soon as possible, if you are facing any irritation.
